{Engagement Shoot} Tammy & Dan

Let me first off start by saying, I love Tammy. She's extraordinary, really. I know, it seems like I'm totally infatuated with every one of my brides, but the truth is, I really and truly am. They are all so different and special and Tammy is no exception to this.

The first time I spoke with Tammy was last summer over the phone while I was in Carmel and she was in San Francisco. She called me originally to inquire about wedding planning services and we literally talked for an hour about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING wedding. It was one of those conversations where everything just flowed so naturally between two women who were on the same page and shared the same excitement and vision.

Our first face-to-face meeting was at Pacific Catch in San Francisco, where we chatted about her venue, colors and overall vision over a glass of Chardonnay. It was such a fun and lively chat as she's probably the most darling little firecracker of a bride I've had. I, myself, am known to be quite "the firecracker" too, so it's so much fun to be able to vibe on that energy. Also, Tammy is this doe-eyed stunner with a great sense of style, has a quick wit about her and very warm energy. I'm so excited that she's one of my brides for 2012.

As we started to talk more about her venue (in Sonoma) something just didn't feel easy about the process she was undertaking to make it happen. My personal philosophy about wedding planning is, if it's not naturally fitting into your grand plan, don't force it, change it. For example, in Tammy's case, she really wanted a Saturday wedding but a Friday was her only option at her current venue. Then she found out that there was a major sports car race going on during her wedding weekend. Needless to say, her venue situation was getting complicated and beginning to turn into a headache. As a planner who works a lot on the Central Coast, specifically Carmel Valley, I suggested that she take a look at another venue that I felt fit her vision, Chateau Julien Winery.

The following week after our initial meeting, we met in Carmel Valley and toured the estate together. It was so gratifying for me as a planner to see my client and her family fall in love with a venue that I suggested out of pure intuition. Not only did she fall in love with it, they had the Saturday open that she wanted and everything just fell into place easily after that. In wedding planning, when done right, things that brides want should just fall into place naturally.

Tammy and Dan's wedding date is set for this coming June in Carmel Valley. Her nuptials will be nestled in the estate's vineyards and her reception will be in their beautiful barrel room where guests will dine on a three course-dinner and dance to a top San Francisco DJ.

The following images taken of the couple are from their engagement shoot in San Francisco. There is so much love flowing in these two that I honestly sigh every time I look at them. They are so gorgeous, I can barely stand it!  Photography by Sarah Kathleen.

Congrats Tammy and Dan!

A Floral Inspiration - David Austin Garden Roses

If I've designed your wedding, are one of my preferred floral vendors or are close with me, then you already know that my favorite flower is a David Austin Garden Rose. There is just something about their fragrance, hue, texture and simplicity that evokes a blissful feeling in me. Whether they appear in an amazing complex arrangement or as a stand alone blossom in a bud vase, they make statement. I love introducing this variety of rose to my brides as they fall in love them instantly every time.

Enjoy the following images of David Austin Garden Rose perfection (well, at least to me).

When I first meet with a bride, I begin to notice each of  her gorgeous attributes - hair, eyes, skin tone, personality and energy. As we start to get to know each other, I begin envisioning the feeling of her wedding day and what she's going to look like. After all, she is the star of the show and I want to nail every detail she's dreaming of.

I met Jen at Blue Bottle Cafe in San Francisco's Ferry Building late last summer. When I entered into the cafe, I immediately took notice of this very tall, very striking brunette with green eyes and long flowing hair. I knew it was her. After we got to talking for a bit, I thought to myself, "Lucky me. She's not only gorgeous, but she's awesome". As a planner, I'm pretty much a straight shooter in regards to my approach in communication, and so is Jen, so I think we really understand each other on that level. She also is incredibly detailed oriented and grounded, again, qualities I love in my brides. I know I mentioned that's she beautiful, but I think I neglected to mention she's also scientist at Berkeley. With brains and beauty like this, Yastish (her fiance) definitely hit a home run.

I first met Yatish at Pastries and Petals in Carmel during their wedding cake tasting. When Jen introduced me, all I could do was smile, shake his hand and think "Nice job, Girl. He's a total hunk and this is going to be fun".

Jen and Yatish have selected Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley as their wedding venue. If you're an avid follower of my BLOG, then you're familiar with my love of the property and staff. Needless to say, I can't be more excited about their wedding day to come this August.

Jen and Yatish decided to take their engagement photos in Carmel Valley last Fall at Berndarus Winery and Earthbound Farms. Enjoy their gorgeous images taken by photographer, Allyson Magda.

A Slice Above the Rest - Statement Wedding Cakes, Style & Inspiration

Cake by Maggie Austin

As a wedding planner, my style is constantly evolving and reshaping by my immediate surroundings, seasonal designer trends and my amazing network of  innovative vendors. For 2012, my design style is definitely gravitating towards simplicity, whimsy, elegance and one-of-a-kind modern designs with clean lines. And, cake is no exception.

The famous quote by Marie Antoinette, "let them eat cake" takes on a whole new meaning these days with some of the amazing pastry artistry out there in this very innovative and competitive wedding industry. I find myself swooning over new designs, flavors and textures each season, and 2012 is no different.

The wedding cake, no matter what style couples lean towards, is an important part of the overall event design, and should be a stunning focal point for guests to admire. Not only should it be gorgeous, but it should also be delicious, after all, it is cake

One vendor that I'm completely inspired by this wedding season is the uber talented Maggie Austin, a DC based wedding cake designer. Her designs are so detailed, so unique and so genius. I can flip through her entire portfolio and just sigh in a dreamy haze. I honestly feel that her cakes are so beautiful, they should be for display purposes only and her clients should just order sheet cake for service. It pains me to think about a cake knife breaking through her perfectly manicured designs.

Below is a collection of my favorite designs from her portfolio. I hope you are as inspired as I am.

2012 - Hitting the Ground Running!

The gorgeous image above is my inspiration for 2012 - simple, modern, relaxed, natural and a bit daring. Take chances on style, stay grounded, let it flow and just be beautiful.

It's been an incredibly busy beginning of the year for us here at Soiree. I have been traveling all over Northern California with out-of-state clients and having a great time. The more time I spend with each of my 2012 client couples, the more inspired by them I am and I just can't wait for their big days. Each couple has such amazing and unique style and it's so rewarding to see the details we've created come through to fruition. I somehow need to add a 25th hour in my day to keep up with all the wonderful things happening.

Keep checking back this week as I have some amazing client engagement shoots that will be posted, great planning editorials and inspirational images to post.

Happy 2012 and happy planning!
